I am hopefully going to be joining a 4x4 response unit. I will have to carry a shovel, recovery rope etc. can anyone help with the best way to secure items in the back of a disco 1 without bolting in a storage box? Your ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mick

ratchet-strap a storage-box in?.
If you still have the "dickie-seats" in place you should be able to use the seat-belt straps as suitable anchor-points?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Forum Fiend v1.0.1.

Look at a van volt mobi. Portable solution and the base fits neatly between the legs of the dickie seats. Got one in mine (and its for sale).

Dog guard. Use bungees to secure your spade to it.

Put shackles & strops & winch gloves into a good large holdall bag or plastic container/box - keeps them all together and the mud stays inside not all over the bot floor. I've got a couple of these - http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/fullrange_rub.php

Have another bag to keep your flask, sarnies, choc and such together.

Then another for cooking kit (I always packed a camping stove and/or kelly kettle when I was on winter standby).

Finally, pack a plaggy bag with spare jeans, socks and dry shoes, and a towel etc - if you go out and get wet in snow etc, you get very cold very quickly. Get changed into the clean dry stuff and you'll feel better much quicker ;)
