Hi can anyone give pointers

My 90 has issues with the clock and sender, engine is fine.

Had 3 new britpart senders one worked for a month

Clock still works in that it goes straight up on cold ignition on.

I need to find a solution and find a sender that works with original clock and 200tdi engine

I’ve been looking at this kit but unsure about sender

Steve Parker could only offer britpart senders

I had trubel with mine so I bought a complete kit gauge marked in centrrgrade from deamon tweaks about £35 VDO no trubel since

Steve Parker don't do the conversion sender anymore?
Got one in mine,works fine.
There are 2 different threads for the sender iirc, fine and coarse.

.Fyi , the gauge shouldn't move at cold , going up to half way is a consequence of the incompatible sender.
Shame about the SP sender's though, always been happy with mine. I'll have to go vdo or something if mine fails then.
I've wondered if an electronic geek could work out the correct resistance in the circuit and solder in a simple and cheap resistor that would solve the issue.
I'm sure ish that it could be done?

I beginning to think if I get a new clock the compatibility issue may go, the wire is certainly live as when its unplugged the clock goes down so there is some current travelling. It seems that the new senders will not be compatible with the old clock, slowly im coming to this conclusion so im just going to buy a clock and fit VDO most likely and see what happens

The live feed to the temp gauge is constant, the negative (from the sender) is what varies and moves the needle. It's called electrical resistance , fuel gauge uses the same principle.
That's how I understand it anyways.
I remember reading a thread somewhere about why a Defender sender couldn't be used(?) But forget the details of it all:oops:

No its 200tdi Defender, ive seen a few posts now where they tap the original sender to fit the NPTF fine thread senders, the whole thing is a ball ache, and Im pretty sure that one of these 4 Britpart senders Ive already bought is going to work with a new clock but I may be wrong, we shall see.

I thought it was a disco 200 in an earlier 90:oops:
So it's a genuine defender 200 with a genuine defender 200 engine?
If it was originally a petrol/nad/TD then maybe the gauge isn't compatible with the new 200 sender?

I always thought that the gauges were the same?

200tdi Defender engine in a 1986 90 :)

I was using PRC7311 gauge, and PRC8593 sender. I’m now using the sender that is recommended by Retroanaconda for the TD5 dash conversion, and the TD5 gauge. Not sure on part numbers for them. You need an adaptor for this sender though, it’s only £3-4 for a pair from most online racing car suppliers.
