Under normal motorway driving (70+) in a defender 200Tdi 90 how high should the gauge go, mine reaches about 3 quarters is this normal ?????

I just change to a 74 degree temp gauge and it runs at dead middle. The 82 degree, I had in for the winter months, ran slightly under 3/4.

Todd.

find out what's the temperature rating of the sender gauge first before looking at the positions of the needles.

if it was totally factory in good working condition the Tdi is just abt center of the meter or sometimes slightly to the right, while the Td5 is slight to the left of the center.

My 200tdi was running up to the red when on the motorway. Spent lots on temp. sender, thermostat, viscous coupling, radiator, water pump. I now think I had not bled the air out of the radiator correctly. Everythings new now, bled and temp gauge is bang central.

G'day,
I'll throw my two bobs worth in on this one!
#1 I had high temp problems (red) but moreso at night! Fixed problem by adding an earth wire between firewall and engine. Common fault.
#2 I towed a heavy Barra boat in the Northern Territory and when loaded the temp gauge would rise dramatically - cruise and it was fine - ended up the Viscous Hub. Have heard of aftermarket units failing.

I had a 200tdi RR - never got past the middle on the hottest days in the UK. Had to muffle the rad in the winter so that the windscreen would demist

thanks for all your replies, it is still running at about 3/4 o the motorway but never in the red, changed the rad as the fins had rotted, head gasket just for piece of mind as its done 125000, water pump as it had play in bearing and a temp sender tried bleeding the system about 3 times and it still sits that high oh yes and changed the visco unit twice, just gotta live with it i think it runs fine and never reaches the red apart from when the rad is blocked with mud so never mind, might try the earth thing as suggested. But its gotta get me to normandy in sep so fingers crossed haha
!! no i trust it
Graham
