Hi again,

Services my Landy diesel on Monday and since then the temp gauge has been in the red but I don't think the engine is overheating. At a loss as to what it might be. My electrical knowledge is zilch!!!

All other gauges are working well. What is the wire that connects to the oil filter housing?

If you take the wire off the sender unit does the temp gauge drop back down to cold and back to overheat when you short the wire to the engine?

Check the earth continuity between your engine and the bulkhead instrument panel.

A bad earth can give you all sorts of spurious readings.

Hi maxcomx,

The engine is running sweet as a nut. Cleaned all the wiring and the gauge worked well for an hour or so. I have a new sender as the old one will move from cold to normal to hot and then to cold again and never sit in the same position for long enough.

Ran into a similar problem with the sender in my 110. Check the seating of the tab on the crimp on top of the sender - if it is loose the resistances can be all over the patch. That had to be the only electrical problem i ever fixed on a landy with a mallet and a pin punch. :)
