Temp gauge wasn't working so fitted new sender. It worked but just kept on going and didn't stop? The new sender is a britpart from paddocks if that helps. This is now the 3rd one I have tried what the balls is going on?

Thanks chaps

What series?
If series 3 temp sender is fed by a voltage regulator on back of speedo which reduces voltage to around 10V if your getting 12V-14V at sender then gauge will read high.

Take it you know that the engine isnt actually running hot? Checked all water levels and belt tension of water pump etc??

If it's none of thoose i agree with 'Blackburn', get your multimeter and check the voltage going to the gauge.
If you can check that the needle goes from the white too the red so that you know the gauge isn't faulty. Do this by applying a voltage of around 10-12V on the gauge.

If all is well and good and it reads to both extents it could be the sender unit but highly unlikely as it is new.

Yeah fuel gauge would be a bit unstable i think, moving about a lot, from circuit diagrams i think the same voltage reg does both (from memory) ...

If its a proper voltage regulator then it won't give 10V instead it will give full battery voltage for about 3/4 of the time going on and off a couple of times a second. If you look carefully at the gauges you'll see them twitching.

Does it read 100% when engine is cold - in which case its just the wiring is shorted to the block or chassis somewhere. If it shoots up after a few minutes it might still be that. Easiest way to tell is to run a temporary wire from the sender to the guage.

Been trying to sort the wiring on my 2a and guage was doing that turns out I had wired it to the choke warning switch

Mine does it as well, always runs in the red. just got a 74 degree Britpart TSTAT. and guess what?
It is badly made and distorted. the supplier didn't say Britpart so I didn't know. Britpart and b@llocks!
Please send a proper one.
