Installed a radio and noticed my temp/fuel gauge no longer worked nor did my side/indicator/tail lights. Replaced the fuse and the lights are back but the gauges show no life. Was thinking I might have disconnected something when pulling speaker wire but didnt see any loose connections on either instrument. Thoughts on the next step? I did cut some wires to connect to the radio harness but those were never connected to anything, could that be the issue? Maybe I shorted the instruments out but the fuse should have fixed that. Thanks in advance.

It would help if you told us what vehicle it is and year, what wires did you cut?

Sorry. '92 200tdi CSW. Wires were from the old radio or rather where the radio used to be. Dont remember the color but it was three wires into a bullet connector. I'll have to pop out to check the color tomorrow but I think purple or blue and red. One was the 12v the other ignition. They weren't connected to anything and everything worked fine up until the install.

The wire colors were purple and green. These were connected to a bullet connector but were not being used. I just cut off the connector and used one purple for the 12v the others I taped off and used a red/white for the ignition connection for the radio, another wire not being used.

The connector was joining the wires but in the capacity to have something plugged into it. It was just "extra" wiring where the radio used to be. I assume it connected to the old radio but that's been long gone. I cant find the one I cut off but it looks like this, female side.

I'll take a look at the diagram but all the wires to the gauges are still connected. I've since unplugged the radio but maybe I should reverse the process and reconnect the four wires with a single connector? Again they weren't connected to anything other than being part of the wiring harness.

Anyone have thoughts on this? I got hold of a voltmeter and determined no juice coming into the gauges but the fuse that runs the gauges/lights is good as the signal/brake lights work fine. Could there be another fuse I'm missing or maybe I blew a relay?

It sounds to me that you have cut the green live feed wire to the gauges, try running another wire from fuse to gauge. Or find where the cut is and repair it.

That's the only thing I can think of but the only wires I cut were where the radio is and they were all connected with a single four input bullet connector but not plugged into anything. Could cutting them out of the connector cause the issue even though they werent connected to anything? And not all those wires have juice running through them according to the voltmeter. But I think it may come to running a new wire.

Some conectors act as jointing links as well and may have had the live feed going in and out of the same side to run else where
Without seeing what you actually cut the only option I can see is running a new live feed.

Ah, that could be the issue. I'll see if I can reconnect them like they were before starting a dash removal and running a wire. Thanks for the help.
