OK Guys

Question, what is the better engine to have in a Landy and why. I personnelly would go with the Tdi 300. Its the last of the basic engines, before the black box was installed, that puts the dealerships back on the high ground charging a arm and a leg. Sure its got some good points, better MPG? and more grunt (or has it). But give me a engine, i can go to isolated places in, and tweak, without worrying about electronic screwing up.

hi to all, i have a 300tdi 90 and think that it could do with more power as hills at highway speeds kills it , it does tow a heavy horsebox well because of the low speeds 80-100km/h.i do most of my traveling between 110-120km/h on highways, the climbs are not fun as i have to accelerate more than i would like to
and end up going too fast for this type of vehicle trying to cope with the other vehicles in the fast lane- more power for a landy is not a bad thing

any info to fit a better/bigger intercooler in a 300tdi as it has to fit in a gap next to the radiator.i don't fancy somebody setting(stuffing around) with the pump settings as this can lead to future problems. can cleaning out the intercooler help?

Hi. Im new to the forum I dont currently have a landy I have owned a series 2a before and driven a 200tdi.

I am looking to purchase a 90 either a 300tdi or a TD5 so would also appreciate any further comments on the pros and cons.

Also what are the performance stats of each one.

Thanks

whether this helps or not I'm not sure, but I went for a 2.8 Isuzu in my 90 and it flyes!
On road it flyes!
Off road it flyes!
Even on the motorway with 6 people in, towing a trailer with 10-12 friends' camping stuff for 5 days (that's a lot of stuff, with easlier 20 crates of beer as well), it still pulled up the hills and never went below 60 mph! :D

Isuzu you know it makes sense!......in a landy that is!

The good thing about the 300tdi is that its a basic engine, yep it not the fastest landy in the world. My boss has a TD5, and it does shift, we get about the same MPG, i maybe get abit more. He's had a few problems with the engine management system, so it has to go to the garage to get sorted. I more than happy with the 300tdi, sounds like a tractor, but who cares, i know it will take me anyway and if i do have a problem, 9 times out of 10 i will be able to sort. Keep it simply;)
