Hi, just bought a TD6 with a fsh. She has done 152k. Have no idea on gearbox history though. It works fine. Do I change the oil and filter, or do I leave well alone. I have read lots of stuff on the web about fails after fluid changes ? service history up to 100k with Land Rover after that with BMW. ???

Welcome to landyzone:)
i assume its a range rover td6, the one with the chocolate gearbox if so do an oil change and see what the fluid looks and smells like that will give you an idea of condition,
Have word in the range rover section they will know more.

Usually when an auto box is goosed, change filter/fluid or flush will kill or cure is what you’ve been reading.

Regular oil changes are what’s needed for these gearboxes plus the filter. You’ll never get it all out of the cooler etc in one drop. some people do two changes if it’s history is unknown and change filter after second drop, giving few hundred miles in between to absorb as much as possible.
They last well if you don’t leave it too late.

Mine went about 8K miles after the oil change but it had done 110k. Glad I did the service as it did give me a good idea of the state of the box.

The Sonnax Valvebody should be fitted to a working 5L40 to help extend its life.

At 152k i doubt it's on the original box.

Easy way to check. Have a look at the 'sealed for life'. If it's been done, chances are recon followed soon after. FSH isn't the important thing , on an older vehicle, receipts are. Do you have all receipts? Look for the gearbox recon one.
