Hi everyone just about to service my td6 since I got it, just quick question are they fuel filters self priming since they have electric pumps? Or do they have to be filled first? Cheers

I poured what I could out of the old one (which wasn't much) into the new one but I didn't prime it.

Thinking about it I think I turned the ingition on for a good few seconds before starting which I suppose is priming it.

Thought about doing the same, when I had my disco 2 td5 that was self priming but had to either cycle ignition or think it was ignition and press accelerator 5 times and it started a priming process then once it had done making all sorts of noises it would fire up no problem.

Always best to fill the filter as much as is practicable.

Should be self priming as it is a high pressure injection engine, but any you can get in there first will be a bonus.

All sorted, did as above, filled as much as possible with fuel from existing filter, cycled ignition twice the started and held revs at 1500 for few seconds, all good, no issues. thanks again for the advice.

Cycle the ignition à few times and run at 1500m2000rpm as saud to push any air out. I wouldn't refill from the old filter as it could have crap you could contaminate the clean filter..

Was careful to pour it out of the “out” port so in theory had already been through the filter.
