Ok

Am doing a water pump replacement and have the old one off.. no problems.

Am trying to fit the new one but when I line it up and line up the metal prongs it just wont slot in and mate with the metal face on the auxiliary unit,

I bought a replacement impellar off ebay pics are below.

The two prongs sticking out of the back of it are slighty bigger than the original part.

But it sits in ok apart from a 4 mil gap. The keys sit in and you can turn the impellar a few mills each way, and if you turn the crank pulley the impellar turns.

But it just wont seat right and mate up flush. I have tried screwing the 5 screws in to help it mate but no joy.

Pics of the old and new impellar attached.

Anybody any ideas, my back is broken and my fingers have frostbite.

Relaxing with a can of carlsberg before i attempt it again.

Sorry, pics are attached now.

Heading out to try tackle this again.

Anybodys help would be appreciated.

Did you clean out the housing where the water pump fits and did you grease around the shallow cylinder below the pins, to help it slip in (fnar fnar!)

Do not use the bolts to try and drag it into place, there is a real danger of mucking up the bolts or the threads in the housing.

Once everything is cleaned and lightly greased, line it all up, put the bolts in to keep it in line and using a piece of wood and a club hammer, persuade it in.

No

Yes.... And I shouldn't have.

Ok gonna try your method..... Thanks alot

Worked a treat.

Lined up impellar, put a piece of wood across it and knocked it with a hammer until there was a 2mil gap.

Put on the water pump cover plate and used the 5 bolts to screw it in until it mated and the grease i had smeared on the gaskets was squeezed out.

Perfect.

Thanks for the help. Didnt think id get it done.

Topped it up with coolant, bled the system and took it for a drive. Perfect heat and no dumping coolant on the ground when i turned off the engine.

egggggcellent.
