Hi everyone,

Hope someone can help as my washer jets on my 02 Td5 90 do not work. The pump makes no noise, the pump's connector is only receiving about 1v when switched on.

I figured this means there's an electrical issue, recently changed all wipers fuses as they packed up a month ago and need a new park switch. Otherwise I'm stuck for where the issue is, none of the wires appear damaged either?

How did you test the voltage?
Hows the earth from the pump? ( its always an earth problem:eek:)

I have no idea what fuse its powered through or if its the same as the wiper motor, But if its on the same circuit and the wiper motor has done something wrong, dont rule out the wiring.
Time to get out the DMM me thinks:).

I pulled out the plug and used my multimeter on it, not sure how to check the earth. Followed all the cables in the engine bay and they appear intact.
Its the same fuse that is used for the wiper circuit and they work fine. Followed a wiring diagram online and the only thing really that can fail is the switch on the dash, wires or the pump.

Have you tried just putting a couple of leads 12+/negative on the pump? Gets rid of 1 item.
Then check continuity across the switch.

Easy things.

You didn’t actually say what/how you tested at the plug?

Another thing that happens to these is the switch itself can develop a high resistance. Mine got more and more pathetic and I had to press the button on the end harder and harder to get any action. I got as far as buying a new wiper switch, but the existing one seemed to cure itself so haven't put the new one on yet. It's probably just suffering from a bad case of that blue powder that loves to grow all over car electrical systems. I'm not saying that this is definitley the problem in your case but it is worth a look.

I had a look but I don't think I will be able to access the pump to test it, its quite hidden away on the td5.
I tested the plug by using my multimeter over the the two pins on the pump's plug, I then switched the washer on from switch and got my dad to read the voltage. That's where we found the 1v when switched on.

It used to work, conveniently only stopped working by the time the truck was given to me and never really showed any signs of failure before.

Thanks, ill have a look at my switch, do you know of a good way to test the switch, I havent had time to tear apart the dash yet to find out for myself. Thanks.

Sadly there's a certain amount of dismantling needed, but once you get the plastic shroud off the top bit of the steering column just behind the steering wheel it should be fairly obvious what's going on. It was a few months ago I last had a look at mine so I can't remember exactly but I think it was pretty obvious because there was a couple of wires which appeared to be heading for the push button on the end of the switch. I think it may have been a blue one and a black one. See if they show zero resistance on your meter when the button's pushed.
