Hi all
New member to forum although LR owner for around 20 years, mainly TDI`s or TD5 although have also tried two freelanders which I keep mainly quite about
Current 2004 TD5 auto runs great and drives well although has tendency to completely lose all engine power resulting in coasting stop and engine management orange light on. Car then starts straight away and lights go till next time.
Car has been checked several times by good known garage and computer states crankshaft loss of pressure. Have had new crankcase pressure sensor fitted. New wiring from sensor to ECU and ECU tested to no avail as fault still occurs occasionally> Main LR dealer just advises buy all new parts including ECU as elimination process - stupid as costs out-way car.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as car sails through MOT each year and has a fairly low mileage of 96000

TD5 suffer with the inject loom failure that send oil down to red plug ECU. Check this first for oil in the plug. If confirmed a inject loom is according to fellow landies here is easy enough to replace.

Second, check all hoses between the turbo and the intake manifold for splits. A split can hold pressure until the engine gets up to a certain revs and the increase in pressure opens up the split, causing exactly what you are experiencing. Then the split closes up and holds pressure until next time. Can be frustrating and hard to find.

Cheers although I believe this possible issue has been checked by auto electrician although will call parties tomorrow to check as if not, then a possible explanation.

Thanks and interesting as this issue has never been mentioned by garages. Have a job to do this weekend to check hoses as suggested. Will post back results
Cheers

Is there a crankcase pressure sensor fitted to a td5?
Not heard of it before
