Hi all,

I currently have a complete straight through exhaust system on my Defender 200Tdi. I made the rear section myself and when flat out at high revs it has proven to be just a bit too loud. So one day i decide to make a new rear section using the little silencer box found on the mid pipe of the standard 200Tdi exhaust system. This didn't turn out well and made the drive almost unbearable inside the truck as it made the exhaust note into a deep droning sound, so rather quickly i swapped back to the straight pipe which surprisingly is very quite inside the truck.

Anyway i noticed when listening to a completely straight piped Td5 and Td5 straight piped only up to the small back box that the small back silencer only really takes the raspyness and harsh noises away from the exhaust note, while still leaving the grunty straight piped sound.

So my question is can the Td5 rear exhaust section fit my Defender 200Tdi without too much modification? I don't really want to buy one and find out i will have to modify the centre pipe as it is stainless steel, i'd still like the option to fit my straight pipe rear section back on if i ever want to. :)

Nope I do not thinks so as I wanted to do the same thing and had at the time a full brand new Double SS stainless exhaust for a TD5.

Bigger diameter pipe on the TD5 and different pipe lengths.

I had Proflow make me a stainless rear section up to my thru pipe centre on my 110 200tdi.

Perfect, quiet and neat.

I suppose its a silly question really as everything can be made to fit, i think i have a pipe size adapter around somewhere which might fit so that shouldn't be a problem.

My biggest worry is if it ends up sounding like when i fitted the small tdi silencer, that was horrible. Don't get me wrong it was a nice sound and it quietened up the exhaust note to a good level but the deep drone was unbearable.

All I'm after is something to take away the raspy harshness and a Td5 rear silencer sounds up for the job, but if anyone has any other ideas through experience? Im getting a little concerned now after seeing an increased number of plods around here and recently hearing i can get nicked for a straight pipe :(

it sounds nice tbh more of a standard td5 noise but i have turned turbo up and fueling so sounds a bit better when you give it a blast not too loud its just about ryt in my opnion
