Td5 Service indicator

Hi all, I think I know the answer, but I haven't got a owners handbook, when I turn on the ignition on my Td5 Defender 90, sometimes the speedo needle goes up to e.g. 50mph and comes back down. I assume this is a service indicator, but as I previously said I haven't got a owners manual. Am I correct and what do the MPH graduations mean in relation to a service?

Or am I completely wrong??

Is there somewhere I can download a manual?
