Evening all

I need some advice on security for my Defender TD5 please. It's a hardtop so has no factory alarm or immobiliser.
Not sure about trackers as most seem to require an ongoing subscription and if I know where it is I'm yomping after it (Guessing its just a pin on a map online, could be fun!) Would an aftermarket install be the most secure way forward? Is the LR one worth more thought? Are cut offs on option?

I'm currently sound proofing and insulating so no interior or trim to remove. Also been advised of some additions which might be best discussed offline.

Happy to discuss by PM if best
Thanks
Dick

A decent steering lock, some sort of pedal lock. Is a good start. The more visible deterrents the better. A decent immobilizer is a good idea. A tracker might bring it back but a lot of them are easily blocked.

Disklok, pedallock and then improvise from there.
The more security the better

Definitely something visible like a steering wheel lock and/or pedal lock, then I'd think about an alarm and immobiliser. I have the LR Oem alarm and immobiliser on my Defender and it is very loud when it goes off. I also have a Thatcham 1 Toad alarm and immobiliser on another car and it was very good value and works well. Finally I have a tracker on a third vehicle and whilst it was reasonable value ( you can buy a lifetime licence upfront, transferable to a new owner for the life of the vehicle) the manufacturers discourage any kind of sticker saying" tracker fitted" so there is absolutely no deterrent effect- their reasoning is that if thieves know there is a tracker fitted they wreck the dashboard trying to find it to disable it, whereas if they don't know and drive off..............Not sure I've ever really followed the logic on that one but I'd rather have the tracker than not

Thanks guys, looking into it the hardtop hasn't got all the required bits for an OEM alarm so Im looking at aftermarket (Boo!). I've found what I believe is the alarm ecu and a sounder but thats about it, poverty spec hey!

The stoplock steering lock I currently have looks like it could be used to add more leverage if you get me so while I have been working on the vehicle and its not going anywhere I have removed the steering wheel and the HW100 is within easy reach if I get any prowlers after dark.

I have had a few quotes for a CAT 1 approved alarm, possible tracker and the installer mentioned a transponder tag, which incidentally can be used to disable the tracker. Just by me hopefully. Anyone got one? Im not that clued up with the tracker, whats the crack? Does the local constabulary go get it in their own time or do I recover at my own risk?

It's been a busy weekend as I have pretty much soundproofed everything internally and acquired the centre and rear headlining. Offered them up and lets just say some tailoring is required. Pics to follow.
Thanks as ever
Dick
