TD5 Runaway Engine

Well...last week I experienced a runaway engine on my 03 TD5! Automatic box so had to watch it go bang in a big way.I`m not really mechanically minded and to be honest did`nt know what the hell was happening-thought the car was on fire there was so much smoke and mini explosions!!! My wife and kids were in too and were terrified.

I just need some advice-A reputable garage now has the car-which incidentally I`d just agreed a part ex price on against a newer Disco-and he says that it`s melted a piston and I need a new engine although he thinks the turbo is okay.He`s told me to look on ebay and the net to find an engine and have it delivered to his garage.

I don`t really know what I`m looking for.Will any TD5 engine just drop in to my motor? I was being offered 5k for it before and now just want to get it fixed and sold,but should I put in an engine for £500 or one for £2500?

I would think it`s not going to be worth 5k anymore but what would you lot do in my position-any advice gratefully accepted including if anyone knows where I can get an engine.

had the same problem with mine cracked fuel rail in head letting diesiel go thougt to sump filling it up blowing up engine common problem on td5 discoverys

I'm pretty sure you will be looking for a 15p engine for an 03 not a 10. There are plenty around but be careful, there will be others with more advice I'm sure

If you are trading it in get it fixed as cheaply as possible and get rid asap!

Don't tell the garage you are trading it at anything about it!
