TD5 powerloss (again)

Perhaps worth considering - I’d drive along in my defender td5 and sometimes it would lose power and drive like sh1t, other times, i would lose throttle totally. Driver demand fault was only error showing. Nanocom showed that the pedal was fine. I then drove down the m4 on a wet day and broke down with no throttle at all. Rac man couldn’t find fault. 20 mins later it drove. I was checking hoses, fuel pump etc prior to this. The day after it happened I rewired my accelerator pedal with trailer core and the correct pins and connector. It’s not happened since.

Have you looked at the inside of the boost hose that comes directly off the Turbo to the IC Pipe ...........

I have had a few TD5 motors in my workshop which have developed a tiny split internally and they blow up like a balloon inside thus blocking air entry, leave the vehicle for a while it then drives OK PITA to find that on the first one I had in ;) That said, the boost hose balloning fault doesn't make them run the cooling fan :(.

Sad to say it but a lot of so called professionals simply do not understand how to interpret Data, I do this stuff day in day out, and a helluva lot of my work is sent here from other Garages who just can't fix anything a little off beat ;)

Thank you, its totally mind blowing haha. Just no pattern with it at all. I drove the other day a few hundred miles ....no problem at all.

She drove for about 4 days without doing it, then all of a suddenly it will happen all the time, ignition on and off normally solves it.

I think the AC fan is running because I unplugged the AAP sensor, well I assume so becuase it only started to come on as soon as I disconnected the sensor. I have checked the intercooler pipes but I will do so again just to rule them out. But I lose absolutely all power no power to pedal, only fault code ever found was driver demand fault. Bit disheartening because I've exhausted all avenues to my disposal.

That does sound similar to what I'm experiencing to be honest, do you happen to have a write up on the rewiring? The only fault ever stored was driver demand but having changed the pedal I believed it couldn't be that. Its bit cramped to check the wiring.

I don’t have a right up but search driver demand and you’ll find it. It’s also actually for the d2. If you contact simtek, they supply all the connectors and stuff you need, including the correct socket. You need gold tipped connectors for ecu. If you get stuck with it pm me and I’ll dig out the invoice and ping over. I think I bought the pedal end pins from eBay. Even a specialist doubted me doing it but I was convinced it was that after changing fuel pump etc.
