I have just installed a DieselTorque power box made by Vector Tuning in Germany. My car is a Defender TD5 CSW 1999 model. The power gain is very good with no smoke. It pulls much better on the open road.
The problem is that the engine dies sometimes. It is as if the injectors are switched off one by one untill the car stalls.
I switch off and restart then it runs well again for sometimes a day or two. It seems to happen only in town at low to mid revs. It has never happend on the open road. The engine does not over boost (I have a boost guage fitted). The manufacturer has suggested moving the jumper to a lower setting but that did not help. I had the box exchanged by DieselTorque but that did not help either.
Without the box the engine has never cut out while driving. And no, there is no oil in the wiring harnass or on the ECU plug!

Why is the engine cutting out with the Power Box installed but it runs fine with the box out of circuit????

doesnt the fact that it does the same thing even when you have swopped the box for another one give you a clue ?

Yes the hint is my ecu is faulty, my injectors are faulty, my airflow meter is faulty, the pressure in my fuel rail is too low or too high, or some other sensor is not giving the right value input to the ECU! Or maybe a wiring short or bad connection. I would not ask for info on the forum if I knew what the problem was.
The Tuning Box works in 2 other Defenders (tested TODAY!). One a 2003 model and the other a 2000 model.

I would not ask for info on the forum if I knew what the problem was.

no **** sherlock ..... maybe if you've have given all the info in the first place ..........

take it to a garage and get it plugged into the plastic brainbox

Thanx for the valuable information. Sounds that you really know your stuff! Now is there someone out there who REALLY knows the insides of the TD5 ECU and injection system? Any tuners that have experienced something similar who can point me in the right direction. Maybe something in my vehicle is slightly out of wack and the extra input of the box is the last straw.
How does the ECU check the injectors? What can the box do to cause the ECU to turn the injectors off?

stop wasting yer time trying to find a solution on forums and take it to someone or somewhere who has got access to diagnostic equipment

you could spend weeks searching forums and eventually find someone who guesses that it's due to position sensor x having a low output and failng to tell output sensor y to turn on in time - and then what would you do with that info ?

you'd take it to someone with diagnostic equipment who can confirm it and correct it ?

oh and welcome to LZ

Thanx for the welcome! Maybe just pull the F@#ing box and scrap it as a bad idea!!! Thing goes OK without it.

As a new member also with tuned TD5 tho mine is running the gale force kit with no egr no cat big turbo and big intercooler with no problems at all id hate to have a problem and ask for advice on here fortunately i bought myself the diagnostic box 2 so if you fancy a run up north yorkshire anytime we coulde plug it in and have a look

Yea and here I thought the British were a helpful lot! I would love to "take a run up North Yorkshire way" but being in South Africa it seems a bit far away!!!! Maybe someone with some chipping experience comes across this post. We don't have that much LR DIY people here in good old SA.

Had the Landy checked on Autologic at Taurus4x4 and the airflow meter was found open circuit. All the injectors also had open circuit errors. The injector codes are correct. I replaced the injector loom and the airflow meter (RRRRR!!). The error codes were reset. Now I have to put the DieselTorque box back in and see what happens.
