Hi All

Quick question, how much would you expect to pay for second hand Nanocom for the Disco TD5? I've found one locally for £200, in the box with all the cables. Do they go wrong?

Like almost all modern electronics, a Nanocom would either work or not work. I've not heard of any going faulty. The usual thing to look at would be the condition of the cables, the front panel touch-pad and the externals of the case to judge how much of a hard life it's had.
As to whether that's a good price or not, I wouldn't know, I suppose it depends on how much you want it, but I do know that a new Nanocom Evolution is in excess of 300 quid (as a single unit purchase).
 
Thanks Brian. I suppose if it's the evolution model that's up for sale, and everything works, then £200 isn't too bad. I'll need to find some more info about it tomorrow.
 
Just spoke to the seller, and it's an older unit with the green screen. Ignoring the fancy colour screen on the new one, does the old model do the same job as the newer ones?
 
That's what I'm thinking of doing.

He's dropped the price to £170 and is willing let me borrow it for few days to see what I think before committing to buy it. :) From doing a bit of research, my understanding is that it can do most of what the Evo can do, but you really need a pooter to get the best out of it. Would that be correct?
 
So, as I've got the use of the Nanocom One for a few days, I thought I'd have try to see if it's worth swapping it for the money, and to be honest, my first impressions are NO. The double line dot matrix screen and method of navigation is not user friendly and the PC software is old school. Anyway, I've managed to grab some files off it, but they seem to be in a format which even good old notepad can't even read. I assume these files are unreadable by a PC without the right software, or can they even be read at all by a PC? Also, when I tried to run injector tests, it kept reporting errors, but I'm not sure if this is because its an old version of the firmware and my Disco TD5 is from the last batch (2004), or if I actually have a problem. It did every now and again through up an error saying it had lost comms with the ECU :(

The only good part is that no error codes were showing, but as I'm typing this, I'm wondering if that's actually right, given the issues above.

Needles to say I won't be parting with any cash for this Nanocom One. Roll on payday so I can get the Evolution. :D
 
I have a nanocom 1 that does everything I want. But if I was starting out I'd pay the extra for the Evo version.
