I have an 01 Td5 with 170K up and have it since August . I'm very pleased with it but it has been losing a small amount of coolant over the past few weeks - problem is I can't figure out from where .
There is a little pool of coolant on the undertray as you look down past the air con compressor but having spent a while lying under it tonight I still can't figure out where its coming from .
Is there anything on the Td5 like the P gasket on the 300 Tdi which could leak slowly but be hard to spot ?
Any ideas greatly appreciated as I don't want to risk damaging or even wrecking the engine by overheating .

I had the same prob mine was the bottom of the rad leaking 1 new rad later and coolant level steady :D

p,s if you take the undertray off and look at the bottom of the rad on the drivers side you may find the ally stained pink from the antifreeze

Thanks for that Terry - because of where the coolant was I was thinking of an engine leak . Just had a look at the rad now after reading your reply and when I removed the top cover I found the top corner on the passengers side looks pinkish - so looks like a new rad called for .Thanks again.

No problem, you may find if you look down the front of the rad, between it and the intercooler at the bottom there is a plastic ledge that is clipped onto the bottom of the rad it makes a good gutter and sometimes there may be traces of A/F on it, just as an extra check, I mean you don't want to go spending money that you don't have to do you!

Certainly don't want to spend money if it can be avoided - but in this case has to be done . I stripped off all the plastic bits from the rad and sure enough there was a slightly damp patch near the top on the passenger side and I would think it has been leaking slightly for some time . But you wouldn't see it without removing the cowling around the rad .
As you say it's possible to see how the leaking coolant could be channelled away from the source - and that's what put me on the wrong track .
As they say - you learn something new every day .
