Hi I changed my fuel filter on my 15p td5 due to leaking all went fine drove 7 miles down the road switched engine off then 10mins later it wouldn't start just cranked over managed to get it going but it wasn't running right had to keep revs up drove it down the road but it was loosing power at higher revs. Could changing the fuel filter cause this or might there be something else wrong ??

Sometimes it does take a while to purge all the excess air out, and it can yield poor running and starting for a while afterwards. Make it go through the automatic purge cycle a few more times - you know, the one where you switch on the ignition and then jab the accelerator five times, and this will make the fuel pump come on and switch off automatically several times over the space of about 5 mins. In my experience it takes about two or three of these sequences to get a good fuel supply at the injectors.

Ok thanks I did that when I changed the filter and it started straight up ran for 7miles fine until I turned off then started it again then nothing I'll try it again and see what happens

Best way of changing the diesel filter is to fill it up with diesel to the top then screw it on. Doing this way minimises the amount of air you let into it and most of the time you don't even have to bother purging air making your fuel pump work hard.

Done this on a lot of cars and more often than not you just jump in and start it up job done.

Keep running through the cycle as above and you should eventually get sorted.

Tried purging again but I can't hear the pump kicking in. I managed to get it running but still loosing power came home switched it off and wouldn't start again any suggestions ?

I have read about this before when trying to fix the starting issue on mine.
Someone mentioned that the TD5 will continue to drive even without a working fuel pump.

It could be yours is on the way out / gone, especially if you can no longer hear the usual whine.

Your not wrong - doesn't seem quite right if it was working before. but i guess it could go anytime, maybe a coincidence

But I've also noticed when I open the vehicle the indicators don't flash but when I lock it they do. Am I right in thinking the alarm is linked with the fuel pump ?
