morrning all, I’ve got to replace my ignition as it’s currently a lottery whether the key will turn or not. I got a used ignition with key and door handle a while ago that came with a binnacle, bcu, etc (I only wanted the ecu for my Defender at the time). However I found today one of the shear bolts on the new one is missing, probably from when it was removed by the scrap yard.

Would there be any issues in using bolts instead, obviously cut down to a similar length, or will there be fitting problems with the larger bolt head?

I replaced the security bolts with ordinary ones. If someone wants to steal it they won't bother faffing about with bolts they'll just snap the whole lock barrel off with a bit of pipe.
I want to be able to get it off myself having had trouble with wafers sticking in the past.

Even if there was a fitment issue with the bolt head space, a few minutes on a bench grinder, cut a slot in it for a screwdriver .job done.

Cheers

I swapped it out today, it was surprisingly easy. I ended up just re-using the shear bolts, once they had a few grippy points embedded in them they were easy enough to do up again.

Now for the door handle at some point!
