TD5 Hydraulics

hi guys my td5 defender 1999 hydraulic intermittently it can be fine for months and then it does it and i have to rock it in gear to clear it then its ok for a few weeks or even months the problem started after a drive to spain were it did it once then when i got home twice then nothing for months until now any ideas?

could be head or headgasket weeping,if it is indeed hydraulic lock

will a simple retitening of the head bolts do the trick or is it more serious?

I doubt you could clear a hydraulic lock just by rocking the engine in gear. Are you sure its not a sticky starter?

I changed the starter to find it still locked up so i pushed it down the road put it in 2nd gear took my foot of the clutch and the 4 wheels skided so i put it in gear and rocked it until one of the pistons forced what ever was in the cylender

It may be leaky injector , or HG , whatever it is the engine needs sorting PDQ before you bend a conrod!!!
