Righty, anyone got any ideas?

My TD5 wasn't warming up. I did put another post about this, anyway;

Last night removed the fan. Today on way to work the guage sat at 1/4 for first 3 miles then went up to halfway in one go (pretty much).

Im figuring the fan was overcooling as previously she wouldn't warm up, the guage barely moved.

Now! I thought that the reason my heater blowed cool was because she didn't warm up. However this morn the blowers were still only tepid.

As I type this I am wondering if an air lock could be the cause but are there any common issues relating to the TD5 etc?

Also, anyone know best place to get a thermostat for a TD5? Unipart supplied me yesterday (despite having the reg) with a normal type thermostat and I saw last night its some sort of funky big plastic unit.

Thanks

In my first 5k miles of D2 ownership my temp gauge has always done the nano-second jump from a quarter to full op/temp.
Similarly the heater is not the most effective I have ever come across and as you say, quite tepid actually.

In those 5k miles she has run faultlessly and still does 'cept for the 3 amigos appearing shortly after a set of new front discs and pads were fitted. I've heard that brake squeal can cause this but that's off topic and another post elsewhere.

check the obvious first, coolant level, air locks, new thermostat, new temp sensor...

after that, a TD5 heater blowing hot and cold and erratic temp readings could be a head gasket on it's way out. get it pressure tested if the easy stuff dont fix it.

Hi,
also have td5 , last year had exactly same problems, did all the usual, thought it was air lock etc., etc., Only thing didnt check until it packed up was the water pump!!

My better half is of the opinion my heater is quite effective actually so perhaps I was making a direct comparison to a Mondeo I had as a runabout recently. The heater in that would cook bacon!

I hereby apologise profusely to my D2. :D

Interesting, thanks all this far.

Well, the fans still off, and last night I removed the stat and should fit a new one today. When cold there was no sign the stats letting water through although thats not to say its not opening early....

Water pump,,,,, hhmmmmm, thats got me thinking.
