Hi to all in Landyzone
Can anyone suggest any solution to the problem I am having getting my 2001 TD5 into gear? We have just had the gearbox out and replaced the first gear which had sheared between the main gear and the syncro teeth.Fitted a new clutch now when the engine is off the box can easily be put into any gear, with engine running it is almost imposible to select gears whilst the car is stationary. We have filled the box with the correct oil from main agent and used a scope to view the operation of the clutch inside the bellhousing. We fitted a new slave cylinder as there was slight signs of fluid under the dust cover but this gave little improvement. We are now bemused by the switch which is in the hydrolic line mounted on the inner wing and wonder what it is for and could it cause any problems if it malfunctions? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions
thanks Bri

the clutch is not easy to blead on a td5 and i have found that raising the front of the car helps because the slave cylinder slopes down hill making it hard to get the air out the pressure switch is nothing to worry about it is there to make the reves drop quicker when changing gear when you get up and running try dissconecting it and going for a spin and you will see what i mean

I am not familiar with the clutch arrangements on a TD5 (mine is auto) but having had dealings with other makes, I will volunteer some previously experienced problems. The first is to ensure the clutch bearing pivot arm is correctly situated on its pivot point which is usually a ball and retained by a spring clip. Another problem can be that this arm can crack adjacent the pivot point and thus bends instead of depressing the clutch. With regard to bleeding, I would pressure bleed it, you can buy the kit from most motoring stores, about £15. You could try the old mechanics trick which is to open the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder, and then stamp the pedal down, tighten nipple and let pedal up. Once again losen nipple and stamp the pedal down. try this for a couiple of goes and then bleed normally by opening nipple going down and tightening when letting the pedal up. Afterwards check the travel on the arm underneath.
