Hi guys, what the f@@K is going on

We are currently getting about 300 miles out of a tank. Not actually clocked it properly but always seem to be at the petrol station.
Couple of questions - 1) can you hear your fuel pump running constantly or does it go silent after a while.
Mine was replaced early last year, but with none genuine part!!
2) Is it possible that the pump is pushing too much fuel through and so excess is being burned off somehow.
