TD5 fuel Tank Capacity.. MPG Calc...?

Hi guys, what the f@@K is going on:eek:.
We are currently getting about 300 miles out of a tank. Not actually clocked it properly but always seem to be at the petrol station.

Couple of questions - 1) can you hear your fuel pump running constantly or does it go silent after a while.

Mine was replaced early last year, but with none genuine part!!

2) Is it possible that the pump is pushing too much fuel through and so excess is being burned off somehow.:eek:

Mine's not far off that at around 340 per tank. But it is normally only used for short journeys. That's about 24MPG on fill to fill calculation.

However, I do suspect my fuel gauge is dodgy because when the low fuel light comes on and I fill it to the first click I can only squeeze in 60-65 litres max :confused:
 
In previous motors I have always been used to getting at least 30 miles once the fuel low light comes on. The disco light doesn't seem to come on until very late and on a couple of occasions we have ran out of diesel.

Is this normal? I am beginning to think that my fuel gauge is faulty!
 
my fuel gauge has just stopped working {well, gets stuck at half way} so this thread is useful as I am re setting my trip after each fill up and under the assumption I get at least 25mpg on a 17 gallon tank gives me a min range of 425 miles before panic about fill up, hope its just a sticky float.....
