TD5 fuel pressure regulator gasket trouble..... Not the regulator!

Sorry to bore you all with this, I know TD5 fuel pressure regulators have been discussed a lot in the past but I'm struggling with this one and its a little different so I could do with some pointers.

In short I changed my fuel pressure regulator (just the regulator itself and the compression gasket - not the whole assembly) the regulator no longer leaked but I had a drip coming off the bottom 10mm bolt on the assembly suggesting that I now have a leak between the assembly and the block which is running downwards and off the bolt head....

So today I fitted a complete new FPR assembly (genuine land rover) again new gasket, torqued all the bolts up to 18 ft/lbs and I still have diesel dripping of the bottom bolt

I figure it can only be the way that I am torquing the assembly down and perhaps I need to nip the bolts up slowly and more evenly, which is tricky because access is tight.

I have bought another 3 gaskets to keep myself busy on my next day off but wonder if anyone else has had this trouble?

Had same problem when I fitted new regulator. Second time around held gasket in place with elastic band as advised in Land Rover fitting instructions, then tightened bolts carefully to pull regulator down squarely. Found after taking first gasket off a slight crease which was enough to allow leak.

I cheated and smeared Hylomar on both sides of the gasket when I did mine. No fuel leaks!

have you got the right gasket there are 2 like the regulators

I do have the right gaskets.

Please tell me more about the elastic band trick, I've googled but can't find anything.

I have either Curil k2 or Loctite 518 anaerobic both of which would be happy sealing it and easy to clean off in future.... Perhaps that's the next step just as a time saver as I don't want to keep doing the same job

Before you fit regulator put the three bolts through it, and put gasket in place on bolts. Then put elastic band around the three bolts holding gasket in place. You can then reasonably easily hold regulator in position to start bolts, after tightening bolts a few turns remove the elastic band and continue with tightening. Hope this is clear.

I haven't really had much trouble getting everything in place which is what I find strange about this whole thing, the gasket surely shouldn't be so sensitive to fitment.

I'll have one go with a new gasket and if it leaks again I'm going to pop another one in with some sealant.
