Hi,
My TD5 seems to be a bit flat when accelerating. It's even worse when the engine is cold, almost got overtaken by a mobility scooter this morning!

The revs seem to pick up after a couple of seconds and the power comes on quite strong but it's those first 2-3 seconds after a gear change that's bugging me.

Earlier, I cleaned the MAP and MAF with contact cleaner and it made a very slight difference but not enough to be honest. Can anyone recommend anything else to check/clean?

Thanks
Brian.

Thanks John, the red plug is fine for oil and the wastegate rod didn't seem to move very much or all that easy but it drove great after I moved it and coated it in WD-40

However, after turning the engine off it goes back to the sluggish engine again. Any suggestions on a permanent fix?

wd-40 is not a lubricant. if that solved the problem you need to put something else on it, I'd imagine the wd40 evaporated when it got hot and went tight again.

you need to work it with mole grips so it moves freely, sometimes the arm needs removing from the turbo so the little spindle it connects to can be checked, without the arm on it, it should move smoothly with no resistance

Greased and worked it with the moleys and it ran great without any problems until I turned the engine off for 10 seconds and then back on again. Think something might need replacing :(

By the way, there were 13 threads showing and the knurled wheel could not be turned no matter what...

Still struggling with the bugger!

I removed the clip to get the threaded bar out of the way and the lever worked fine. I could hear the wastegate valve opening and closing without any resistance so I reassembled it after cleaning and oiling it all again.

Took it for a quick run and it's still sluggish with no bottom end power so I think it must be something else, but related to the turbo.

What is the vacuum thingy, can that be replaced?
