Hi,

I have a 2005 TD5 XS with silver rectangular dash centre panel.

Planned to fit a YUG000540LNF front fog switch in place of blank to switch front lights (fogs) when sidelights are on. I've searched most forums to get pinouts for the switch and came up with:

1 = earth switched
2 = +ve illumination (on with sidelights)
3 = earth
4 = redundant earth (matches pin 3)
5 = +ve control light (small orange led, feed from powered device)

I've also arranged wiring from dash to relays under drivers seat to feed other lights (roof, work). These are to be switched from normal rockers.

Problem is the normal rocker switches control the positive feed to the relay i.e. a positive feed from the main beam switch can be switched through to the relay to activate the roof lights.

However, the OEM fog switch seems intended to switch the earth from the relay (not the positive feeding in) i.e. it works with opposite polarity.

This means I'll have to rewire this relay and run another feed back from the relay to pin 5 to indicate the lights are on. A right pain in the cubby box as the wires are all routed!!!

If the switch lams were normal bulbs I could reverse the switch polarity but since LEDs only illuminate one-way I can't.

Can anyone think of a workaround I can use to reverse the way the switch works so it will switch a positive feed and still illumnate properly?

Thanks,

Problem solved.

I've used a micro relay wired into the back of the switch to convert the switched earth to a switched positive and provide a feed to the 'on' indicator on the switch.

If anyone is trying to fit the same switch let me know and I'll post the circuit diagram.

Cheers

Hiya! A long shot, as I see you posted this about a year ago: is the pinout and adaptation diagram still available? I have a 2003 TD5, everything is in place, including the switch, but I cannot connect as I cannot find (until now) the pinouts. Land Rover Dealers (unsurprisingly) were unable to help!
I'd really appreciate the help.

Hi,

Attached is a diagram of the bodge I used to install this switch. Hopefully it is clear enough. If not give me a shout.

Basically the switch works on the earth for the light circuit. No idea why and not very helpful so I used the switched earth (pin 1) to trigger a micro relay installed behind the dash. The switched live feed from this relay then triggers the main relay under the driver's seat to turn on the fog lights.

So that the fog lights only come on when the other lights (side) are on the live feed for the micro relay comes from a lamp behind the dash. This also feeds the illumination for the switch (pin 2). The live output from the micro relay also feeds the amber 'on' lamp in the switch (pin 5). The switch needs an earth for the back and on lights (pin 3).

Since I also want to fit roof lights I ran a conduit from the driver's underseat box to a sealed junction box that I bolted under the blank panel on the offside wing. This contains connector blocks and a common earth strap to a bolt inside the engine compartment. That way I only need to run live feeds from inside the car.

I ran a separate wire to each lamp so I can use small diameter thin-wall cable.

Again, because I was adding more accessories I installed a fuse and relay box under the drivers seat but if you only run one battery this may be better under the passenger seat.

I make no guarantees for the diagram and it definitely isn't the way the switch is meant to run but I couldn't find out how to install it the way Land Rover does.

Ant questions give me a shout.

Good luck.

Steve
