Hiya all,

I am hoping I have missed someone else posting similar problems on here but here goes!

I have a 2002 TD5 facelift auto, it only has 56k on the clock with full service, removed EGR, Angel tuning remap, K'n'N filter. I start the car and try and rev the car and for a good 20 seconds or so it will not rev above 2000rmp, if I climb in the car, start it and try and pull away she will only creep away, the engine not increasing in speed. If I do pull away straight away with this 'problem' and keep my foot to the floor, when the 'problem' clears the bloody thing nearly rips your head off! The car has no other problems, smooth running, not to bad economy  and is a lovely car to own! I have owned her for two years and the problem has always been there and has got no better nor worse!

The chap from Angel Tuning had tuned many of these cars but not come across this problem before! Help please!!

Why would you want to rev your car when cold? to make your turbo last let it tick over for a few minutes.Reving it when its just started will kill the turbo through lack of oil all diesels are sluggish when cold

I also do not condone reving it from cold either! It is mearly an example of what it does from cold. I generally allow it to idle from cold for at least a couple of minutes. If I start it up when it is warm and has only been stopped a couple of minutes say outside a shop or just picking somebody up, it still does it for the same amount of time. I was wondering if it is something in the setup of the ecu or a fault.

It was remapped. The problem was there well before this though which makes me think that it is an inherant 'problem' with the SII Disco:cool:

Iv'e heard before that because the 5th cylinder doe'snt have a glow plug to warm it that it takes a few seconds to join in with the other 4, i dont know if it's true but could offer some reason for yours to be as it is. i have a td5 defender and that starts instantly but i have never wanted to floor it from cold, also have you tried a new air flow meter? its a common fault that effects setting off until the ecu uses an average figure to gauge its fuelling

Sounds promising actually. I have read a lot about the air meter giving problems but never found a thread that represents my problem, I will look into that one and see what I find! Thanks:)

It takes a few seconds for the oil to circulate round the torque converter - there's no drive before that.

But like others I always let mine idle for 30 seconds or so before trying to drive off.

Hi, I have recently replaced my MAF. After months of trouble with lack of power and sluggish start up. Probably not quite as bad as you are describing. I checked all avenues and found £75 - £89:eek: to be average cost.
Then found some on Ebay! Go to sellers and search for glowplugman1. Check the serial numbers on your unit and see if his match.
£34.00 inc. p&p.:)
Not a bad price and she drives like she's possessed:D.

Hope this helps.

hi, most people advise using a genuine MAF sensor as the cheap copies tend to only have a short lifespan

I tried 7 of the cheap MAF`s on my p38 from numerous diffrent suppliers as the genuine one for that car is £760 + vat, had to pay it in the end as all the cheap ones gave poor fuelling and/or flat spots. New genuine one worked perfect, i think they are around £75 - £85 for the discovery, not worth the hassle really.
