I've been toying with the idea of removing the cat on my 02 disco and was just wondering what the benefits/ drawbacks were?
Does it make much difference performance wise? Fuel efficiency? Noise level?
Any advice will possibly be listened to

Did it on mine and TBH the only discernible difference was that you can hear the turbo spool up - which is nice and it does seem to spool up at slightly lower revs.

Worth noting that new MOT regs says that if originally fitted it must be maintained but at rapidly approaching 20yrs old I doubt they would notice it missing to be fair.

as ^^^ says, it is now an MOT requirement and it can (just) be seen even with the engine cover on.
A/ it is yet another thing that can go wrong
B/ as ^^^ says about the performance and fuel efficiencies, What I had hoped to see in de-catting both my 300tdi and my TD5 were absolutely not discernible in either performance or fuel efficiency, and I watch that like a hawk, doing brim to brim checks all the time.

So my 4 pennorth is to take it off, clean it, and put it back on. Then do that every so often. Also keep an eye on the inlet manifold to ensure it does not get bunged up with sludge.

I changed on mine and the only diff i have experienced is that the car become more stinky.
I put back the original one and the decat pipe is now laying in the back of my garage.
