td5 cuts out and temp goes to max

Hello my td5 has started cutting out after starting the temp goes to the max even if its not run, it turns over but won't start I looked at the plugs on the ecu no oil there when I plugged it back in the temp droped and it started, but has done it again any ideas what the cause could be ?
