My td5 disco will not start, all the lights on the ignition come on, you can hear the solenoid in the fuse box clicking, and the fuel pump is work but the engine does not make a sound at all, does not even attempt to turn, it did it a couple of times before and eventually started as if nothing was wrong, but will not go today
any ideas

Check you have it in park! If it is try delaying how quick you try turning the key after you get in.

I had the same prob and at first i did not have it in P, second time I beat the imobiliser. try waiting for all ingnition lights to go off befor turning the key.

This could be your contacts worn in the starter solenoid. It's a common issue. I'm just after putting new contacts (and plunger for good measure) in mine as I was getting the problem that you described.

One thing that helped was to get under the car and pull the little spade connector off the solenoid and clean off the metal contact. I thought this was the problem as it stopped doing the click, no start, thing for a bit.

With the contacts and plunger changed the starter is good as new. If it is this it's an easy job. Worst bit is getting the top most nut off the starter to remove it.

Cheers

Andy
