Hello fellow Landrover owners, I hope someone can help me with a problem with my pride and joy, Discovery TD5 series 2 53 plate. I came out to it this morning and the rear air suspension is completely bottomed out on both sides.
On starting the vehicle the suspension fails to rise at all, can anyone offer some solutions.

I have had a similar problem previously with the air suspension where one side had collapsed at a time if the vehicle was left for a couple of days, however on starting the vehicle the suspension would always raise to the normal height, this intermittent problem was remedied by changing both the air bags.
This new problem is completely different, I have had no warning of any suspension failing, she has been behaving like a dream until this morning.

I have checked the fuse for the SLS located under the dashboard and this is okay. Please help, Mike.

Hi, have you tried changing the height sensors on each side? I had to change these to finally fix the problem. Mind you, once changed you need to recalibrate the suspension either through a dealer or Nanocom. I have a Nanocom and did this in an hour with it and a tape measure. . Car is totally fine now...

Hope this helps - it can be fixed. I bet someone says just swap the springs for coils - not a good option if it's a 7 seater, since that would constitute a modification and start making insurance, etc messy. Not an option for me - I've got a 110 and I want the Disco with its ACE, etc, to handle and ride like a regular car, not a 110 hardtop.

Thanks for the information, I have jacked up the car to investigate and removed both rear wheels, the air compressor was running but not making any difference to the suspension height, the nearside bag had some partial shape, however the offside rear air bag was totally deflated and on examination I found a large ripped hole (2cm) in the offside rear air bag, strange as this has only been on for two years with no obvious chaffing points, a trip to Landranger in deeside to purchase a new Dunlop bag and clips and one hour later my pride and joy was sitting up proud as normal. Never changed one of these before, had the dealer fit it last time, however found it very easy to do myself.

ace is seperate from air suspension ,works as well on coils ,most ive fitted people have preferred them and for less than £100,ecu just needs switching to manual ,and no need to destroy or remove system apart from air spring ,takes an hour to fit ,i keep a set for hoilday makers who want quick fix till they get home,is compressor running you can hear under passenger side on chassis ,have pipe/s split from compressor rearwards

Okay - I can't argue with the voice of experience.

It is a modification though. Land Rover did not sell a 7 seater with coil springs. They designed and tested a car to seat 7 with self-levelling suspension. It could invalidate insurance unless the insurer is informed ( and they might want an engineers report, etc, etc) I'd rather not go through the trouble (I had enough trouble once because a Snorkel was fitted to my 110) and would rather sleep at night. Why change it from how Land Rover intended? It's not an overly complex system and can be sorted fairly easily. Yes, the bags do wear out but coils sag with time too. Mike, you're already seeing it's not a problem to change the bags, you just need to finish the job off now.

As for the ace, well that was designed and tested expecting the car to be level and sat on the airsprings, not coils. A barrister would have a field day in court if the car rolled while on coils, unless they were fitted by a dealer under written recommendation from Land Rover. James, why not just keep some spare airbags and sensors? They won't get wasted,
