Hi everyone, I purchased my first defender 90 td5 a month or so ago. Since owing it (didn't notice when taken for test drive) I have noticed there is a distinct whine coming from the transmission in 5th gear.
If I let off the accelerator it stops but if as soon as i accelerate again it begins, and if I let off then quickly accelerate again I can hear a slight clunk, almost as if some play is being taken up. It also seems a little hard to drop down from 5th to 4th although that may just be me!
I have just given it a full service including diffs, transfer box and gearbox oils so that hasn't solved it!
Any ideas?
