Freelander 2 (LR2) TD4

Hi All, i have a problem with my 2009 TD4 Freelander. I've owned and run the vehicle for 2 years and 10,000 miles without real issue. However just taken it to garage to have timing belt, etc done. Problem is it now won't run. Put key in , press starter and it fires up but immediately dies again. Timing has apparently been re checked, crank sensor been replaced (to eliminate that from issue). The mechanic thinks may be immobiliser issue but seems odd that it chooses this time to play up. Just to clarify... i drove it to garage and mechanic drove it onto ramp prior to changing belt/waterpump... He has had fault finder in vehicle and it shows that key not connecting with vehicle yet it fires up briefly. Any suggestions.....

Hi have you tried disconnecting the battery for 15 min this helped some people
More people will give better advice but it's worth a try

I'd ask on here for a decent garage local to where you are. Someone with the proper land Rover diagnostics and skill to fix.
Otherwise you're paying for the mechanic to scratch his head and try and replace good parts, possibly adding to the fault

Tried that as far as i know...

How long does it run for? 1 second or more? Could it be short of fuel pressure? Did he service it and change the fuel filter without priming the new filter with fuel?

Fuel filter not been touched, was changed 12 mths ago and shouldn't be an issue. All that has been done this time is the timing belt/water pump. I had considered it could be fuel pressure/ fuel pressure sensor but as i mentioned in my post that i drove vehicle to garage, the mechanic drove it onto ramp did the belt, now won't start. Why would it suddenly lose fuel pressure if that's the case...? Have had it mentioned that fuel pump could be a tooth out..... This has apparently been re checked.... Mechanic has had fault finder on it and only thing showing is key not recognising vehicle...?? yet it will start for a second or two and stop..

We need to consider the mechanic may have knocked/fiddled/broken something else which is causing the issue. Does the fob key lock and unlock the car?

Key fob does lock/unlock doors. Not actually done it myself but mechanic says it does. Have tried both fobs just in case one has failed too. Have tried to suggest that something may have been damaged during the job but the chap didn't seem too happy with that..!! Crank sensor been replaced just to eliminate that from the issue, it wasn't expensive but made no difference anyway. ...
