td4 temp gauge is on max and red light is on

Can anybody help. I have got a TD4 freelander and the temperature gauge is on full and the red light is on even before I have run the car.

Have plugged the computer in and the temperature is reading normal. No error codes. Have done a test run through the dash and the gauge goes up and down,

If I unplug the temperature sensor on the engine the fan comes on and runs all the time. So I think the ECU knows the engine is not over heater but something else does

Anybody experienced similar problems before? Or know any fixes or things to check.

Is there another temp sensor or fan sensor some where?

The Temp sensor used by the ECU and the Temp gauge are often different ones - not sure on the TD4 - you could have a look in the Rave docs.

My temp gauge often goes into the red even when the engine is cold.

The problem is the connections for the display, I can hit the top of the speedo and it will reset the temp gauge. This is down to a weak connection in the wiring.


But I don't get the red light.

I will try the hitting tactic
