I have a 03 TD4 that’s a little poorly, stalling, erratic power and no go. Have taken the plug off the sensor for the low pressure fuel, which is mounted on the bulkhead as the fuel pump is under rear wheel arch. This has cured all the problems so is it the sensor or a lazy pump which is my thought and is it the pump is it safe to run with sensor disconnected till the problem can be sorted or is it likely to damage the high pressure pump if it is fuel starvation.

A good thing to start with is to make sure your fueltank is always as full as possible as this can "help", with the downforce of the fuelweight, the remaining one pump.

I recorded the LP sensor signal voltages from a normal TD4 for future diagnostic reference:
All readings taken with the plug connected:

Ign 'ON' engine not running and pump not running: 1 volt
Engine running at idle: 4 volts
Engine at 3000 rpm: 4.2-4.4 volts

Hope this may be of some help.

Thanks for the replies, Quick update, the pump is causing the problems as is getting lazy, am fitting new one tomorrow. Decided not to run risk driving it home 90 miles as it was stopping every 3 miles, so got it recovered, glad i had breakdown cover or would have cost £300 was funny though as our location is a bit tight for large vehicles so told him to off load the hippo in a layby should have seen people's faces as we jumped in and drove off. Just as though nothing was wrong with it.

Probably your neighbours think you feel your car is too precious to do long journeys with it and therefore you hire a flatwagon to carry it up till a couple of yards off your place ????:D:D

Well pump changed and seemed to be ok drove around a bit and problem came back, as it was running started to poke all the conections to the sensors and found the the plug to the fuel pressure sensor on high pressure rail loose and when wiggling it engine picked up. Switched off and pulled plug out, found that the retaining clip had been broke off, got replacement plug conected to existing wires pluged in and problem solved. Now have a spare pump that I took off, good job I managed to get the new pump for only £70 off ebay.
