hello
a little advice needed again

i have a td4 on a 02 plate 150, 000 with fsh
it has trouble starting in the morns, starts then cuts out after a few goes she start but needs a bit af revvin, loads of smoke which i put down to unused fuel
then she started to lack power at junctions:eek: which is a bit of a worry, i unplugged the maf which seemed ti help with the power loss a bit but now she blows smoke on starting, then clears then when driving she'll smoke for 5 mins then stop then start again, this goes on all the time, when she smokes whilst driving she seems to lose power and judders very gently

any idea's where to start

cheers

What colour is the smoke?

Black: Shortage of air- check turbo pipes carefully to start with.
White: Poor combustion producing unburnt diesel in the exhaust.

hello

it seems white/grey, i'm not losing oil so dont think its that and even thought bad fuel but had several tanks full now

what would cause over fuel??? would it come and go??

cheers

A new fuel filter is always a good idea when first buying a TD4 as they tend to get ignored during services because they are a bit awkward to change.

Check the electrical connections for signs of corrosion/looseness on the two fuel pressure sensors:

Low pressure- Has a three wire plug and located on the fuel filter housing.

High pressure- Screwed into the end of the fuel rail nearest battery.

Also change the crankcase breather filter/valve assembly.
Bang in plenty of Millers Powersport 4 diesel additive at least double dose.

Also you mention disconnecting your MAF. I take it you've now either fitted a new one, or one of Roverrons Mafam compensators & aren't just running around with it disconnected.

last 2 days seems to be running better, re fitted the maf, going to give it another full service the weekend anyway just to be sure and see if it stays ok
or as arnie says i'll be back
