It is odd TD4 fault week this week !

Had a vehicle that fumed rich diesel smell from exhaust. Cleaned inlet manifold, egr, pcv and replaced filter.
Problem solved, MOT smoke test passed. Vehicle had a set of recon injectors a year ago according to paperwork.
2 weeks later it is producing smelly fumes again. Defo from exhaust as closing all windows stops the smell coming I to the car.
Any ideas ??

Thanks again.

No smell comes from the ventilation ?
Each time I experienced a diesel smell, it was a leak in the fuel line, since I have an extinguisher in my car …

No smoke at all. Passed mot last week.
Smell cleared after a good service, lasted a week or so then its back!

Wondered if the cat had died ? So to speak !!

Hi the only time have smelled foul diesel (no smoke is when its old it stinks) but if it cleared maybe not are you filling at same source TY

Mine does it on the first start of the day. A small puff of grey smoke and the whiff of rich fumes for a few seconds, sometimes with an unstable idle for five or six seconds. It then clears. It's done it for yonks. I changed the glow plugs a while ago thinking that would cure it but it doesn't seem to have made much difference. My next step is to clean out the PCV and a new air filter. I have the cyclone fitted but have not touched it since it's been on the car (a long time).

Thanks. This one does it all the time! Cleaning pcv and manifold appeared to cure it for a while. Easy to forget the pcv valve when cyclone fitted and they do stick.
Anyone had a failed cat? Does that make a smell?
Trying diesel cleaner next as that is easy !

Hi, did you get to the bottom of this ? Mine doing the same since around a new exhaust going on. As you say smells of really rich exhaust - no smoke, not white puff start up smell 😪

Never found it. Cleared itself after a while !
Maybe you have an exhaust leak?
Don't know if you are supposed to do this but I usually hold a wad of rag momentarily over the exhaust exit pipe and listen / look underneath at the joints.
