TD4 is due an oil change, but recall that I overfilled it the last time due to the official spec oil capacity being too much. Can someone remind me what the proper capacity is? The search function isn't working for me hence the question.....cheers.

Knowing whether it is over or under 5l will determine if I buy 1 or 2 containers of oil, ballpark amount will do and i'll level off via the dipstick when off the ramps.....

Howardos right here, the system takes around 6.5 litres - can't remember the exact figure. Problem is that the oil cooler setup sometimes retains over a litre probably depending on whether the car is totally level or slightly sloped which seems to be why everyone gets different amounts in.
My first oil change was done on ramps & the car wasn't perfectly level & it took just over 5 litres. The second time, I got it done at MOT time by a friend who was able to get it near level & it took the 6.5l.
Don't forget to use fully synthetic.

Haynes says:
6.8 litres if refilling after draining. If filling from dry add another 0.4 litres.
Difference between Min and Max on dipstick is 1 litre.

With a filter change my TD4 takes exactly 6 litres. Make things easy for yourself by cutting a hole in the sump guard to access the sump plug.
