Just what I need this weather!

My wife's TD4 had a damp patch under the rear. Had a look and drivers side of the tank cradle is soaked in diesel.
Took inspection cover off under rear seat and a pool of diesel is sitting around the pump / sender unit.

Ran the engine and it drips from underneath but no sign of the source at the top!!

It did have a replacement pump/sender unit a while back, seal is in right and it is tight.

Anyone had faulty or leaky units!!??

Can't see the leak on any pipe or union. Only appears to drip when engine is running but hard to see as underside of car is soaked!!

Will be checking the pipes tomorrow but any clues?

Thanks.

Thinking about it, how does the FBH outlet from the pump get activated?

There was no diesel in the cap, but not a very tight fit. My vehicle does not have the FBH. Does it pump to this outlet all the time or just when asked?

Wonder if the cold weather has put a call on the spare outlet??

Hopefully sorted this one.
Fuel was around the pump and running down the sides making it look worse than it was.
Figured that if the fuel was on the top then it had to be starting at the top, gravity and all that!!
Removed tank pump, checked seal, refitted very carefully ensuring I looked all the way around it to check it was seated in the tank neck correctly.
Tightened ring with stilson wrench.
All good after testing so far.
Tank will take a time to dry out but no dripping and after a road test and much swerving with a full tank the top of the tank is still dry.
