Once again I look to you guys to help solve my problem. Again I have travelled to relatives down south and the Freelander is playing up in a big way.
Driving on the motorway at 60+ it starts coughing and spluttering. Almost like it has a misfire. It looses a bit of power and wont go over 50. No matter what you do with the throttle it still seems to miss, then it will pick up again.
ant see any black smoke and cant see any boost hoses leaking, the RAC guy couldn't find any fault codes.

I have read the 'loss of power at 70 thread' but they dont seem to mention it spluttering and missing. Does the turbo solenoid cause the engine to appear to missfire or is it just black smoke and a lack of power?

Any help is very welcome as I have a round trip of 30 miles for the next 4 days then a 280 mile trip home and at the moment I can limp at 50 but that's about it.
Thanks

I just had a cough and splutter at speed - not at low speed - was caused by dirty connection / wires fraying on the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Took off connector, cleaned with contact cleaner and a small wire brush, insulated the three wires individually as a temporary fix, so far so good.

There is a service bulletin about this.

Might be that?

I think that's the one under the air tube on the top right of the engine. Is that right?
I will let the engine cool down a bit and then hope the rain stays off so I can have a look.
Thanks.

I think I have found the problem. It seems to be the actual injector plug to the drivers side cylinder. If the engine is running and I move the injector plug the misfire happens, if I release it all is well. This is the only injector plug that when moved causes a misfire. All the others I can wiggle and no problems.
I have spoken to the main dealers and the complete injector wiring loom is about £45 including vat etc... So I should have one on Friday. I hope its an easy fit.
Thanks for your suggestions. I will let you know if this fixes things.

New wiring loom to injectors fitted within 5 mins! Very easy and even came with little plastic guide to bolt to engine top. It was complete with rubber tubing. Remove top cover of engine. Then just unclip the 4 injector plugs, 3 torq screws to undo, the 5 allen key bolts for the ecu box, then thread under the air inlet tube and plug in.
Very simple job to do and it works, no miss-fire at all. I was amazed that this loom was only £42 inc Vat!!! I was expecting about £200, looking at it it is fairly simple but does have 4 injector plugs, a plastic guide, a rubber hose, and the plug for the ecu.
So now I can keep my fingers crossed for the way home :)

Nice :) glad it was an easy fix.

Considering ordering a new fuel pressure sensor harness, but still haven't had time to take a look at what the removal / fitting would be like :)
