Apologies for posting this as I guess it must have been posted many times before but I'm new to this forum so still finding my way around.

Our 2004 Td4 manual which has been utterly reliable now has 152k on the clock and just started to be difficult to get into gear. It is also getting quite hard at changing gear as well. Also, what's the general opinion on using genuine alar parts v. other makes?

What's the most likely fault and what sort of costs am I likely to be looking at cost wise to feet it repaired? We' use a local independent garage rather than LR dealer so I won't be fixing it myself.

Clutch?
Cost me over £1000 to have the clutch and other associated bits replaced at my local garage.
My wallet is still crying.

It could be mechanical or hydraulic faults, can you select gear when the engine is not running and where on the pedal is the bite point when you release it

With the engine off it seems a little hard to get into first but quite easy to get into other gears compared to when the engine is running. Bite point feels as though about 1-2" from the floor. Very hard to get it into reverse and takes about 3-4 attempts with some gear grinding.

Clutch drag, again mechanical or hydraulic, with the vehicle on the flat start engine, put it in first gear and keep the clutch pedal down, let the hand brake off and wait, if the your FL starts to move forward up to a minute in time then you have a loss of pressure that will either mean a quick bleed or new master/slave cylinders, worth also checking the fluid level and if that is low then check for leaks inside drivers foot well and gearbox and all pipes. If all is good then it will most likely be a mechanical fault which will mean a new clutch. FL's are renowned for a low clutch bit.

Thank redwood for your post. Tried as you suggested but there is no creeping in first gear. Oddly enough this morning although still a little difficult to get into reverse it was nothing like as difficult changing between the gears so don't understand what has changed. Bite point is still low down.
