Doing a "once over" service on a MY2002 TD4 Freelander for a friend, noticed that the glow plug lamp in the instrument pack isn't illluminating when you turn the ignition on.

I've read that the glow plugs don't come on until the ambient temperature drops to say around 5 deg C, but does the lamp not illuminate briefly when you turn the ignition on, for a lamp check (as the SRS, ABS etc lamps do)?

Any replies appreciated. It would save me taking the instrument pack out to check for a blown bulb!

Thanks.

Hi, i have had this same problem for a while - for me, the light on the dash used to come on even with temperatures above 5 degrees, but only for a second.

Now, for the last year, it has not come on at all, even in winter - i still dont know, if its the light, the relay, or the plugs themselves

However, i was told its not urgent to get it sorted, since the glow plugs dont work until temp is below 5.

The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor dictates whether the glow plugs come on or not.
The below 5 degrees ambient is for the FBH sensor.
