Hi,
I have a 55 reg freelander td4 while towing at 60mph on motorway the engine lost all power and i crawled onto hard shoulder, rac recovered me checked relays and fuses etc no fault codes but said low presure at fuel rail.
rear pump makes buzzing sound, and we seem to have diesel to front end,
ignition on and all inlet manifold of etc the main feed from high pressure pump to rail nothing comes out even when engine cranked over?

Is this normal?
Any body have any ideas?
would it likely be and need new high pressure pump?

Thank you in advance and hope this makes sense.

Hi, all too common a problem with the TD4. Sounds like your high pressure fuel pump has given up the ghost. Do a search on here and you'll find similar stories.

The HP pump is disabled if there is insufficient low pressure diesel from the electric pump (to prevent damage) Locate the low pressure sensor and check voltages (plug connected and ignition 'on') purple wire 5v supply and green wire carries pressure signal at least 3.5 to 4v whilst electric pump is operating. If this is O.K then find HP sensor (end of fuel rail) and check for looseness/ corrosion in the connector. Then check the condition of High pressure regulator/ controller solenoid connections (screwed into back of HP pump just left of starter motor). Good luck.
