Td4 engine sound

Hi people. A bit of a strange request but can someone post a sound clip/video of what their TD4 engine sounds like please. I am convinced that all is not ok with mine but don't know anyone with one to compare against. Thanks

but that said is it a new noise you've not heard before....can you define it better e.g. a whistle sound which could be your intercooler pipe or a rasping sound that cleares if you rev it a bit which is normally an injector. have you got a loss, of power etc.....
as in all my replys there are some guys on here who are far better to diagnose your probs than me...i'm still learning myself

I know it is a strange request it's just I have heard other td4's idling and they sound nothing like mine. I am trying to find a way of posting a video on here that shows the strange noise that my td4 makes. Mine sort of makes a clacking noise. Wondering if I have a problem with my injector(s).

Just before one of my injectors went, mine made a rasping noise that would clear and throw a load of black smoke out the back if you reved it.
I didnt know any better back then and had put it down to a faulty synergy tuning box.....all was well until the thing broke down on the way to wales. The aa diagnosed remote fuel pump so someone brough me one out but that didn't cure it so i got trailered back home and leak back test showed a knackered injector....now I always have 2 spare injectors stowed in the cubby hole.
A recording of yours would help someone on here point to if you have a problem

That was my video a while ago. Still same noise.

mmm. Is it like that just on tickover or does it increase with revs also I assume you feel the noise is coming from the left of the engine.

Does it still do it after it has warmed up?

Isn't the crankshaft pulley/damper known to get noisey when it's on it's way out

That sounds just like the Crank Pulley failure - also similar sound comes from the belt tensioner failing.
But, first check your lower inner wing lining isn't in contact with the pulleys and belts

Yes is just on tick over. Doesn't increase with revs. It's strange because sometimes it is really bad and then other times not so. Took the it to a diesel injector garage today, they listened to it and said it sounded normal. I would still be interested in other people opinions about how it sounds.

Hi I read somewhere that these engines have pilot injection to smooth the diesel combustion and significatly reduce clatter..........apparantly the pilot function can fail and the engine just retains the std injecty squirt ...... which gives a nasty low speed clatter.......reminscent of real old churners...... Apparantly a typical fault is a wiring defect to injector no 4 ...... which seems when it goes wonky to effect the others................ has anybody got any further info on this......seem to remeber reading this on the Rover 75 web page somewhere .... hope this helps....

mines been knocking for a couple of years, 120K on the clock, pulling strong.

Hi my 2000 TD4 M47 model is very similar, got (had it from 105k) 112k.....pulls strong but is a bit noisey at idle ....... mine seemed to get much much worse after I started using millers fuel additive and millers oil......... I think it was a bit of a shock to a motor that had not been serviced that frequently.......I think mine has been completely de gummed....hence the clatter......
