I think I have already posted this but in the wrong place --- I recently had a fuel pump failure which immobilised my TD4. I replaced it with a new OEM one but found it to be very noisy (as in really, really noisy ) So I purchased another OEM one, but that is also the same. I have replaced the filter, checked for air leaks back to the tank. It is quiet when the ignition is on, but the loud noise is after the engine starts. It shut up briefly when I slackened the water separator drain plug while running, no diesel came out until I turned off the engine. The strange thing is, the engine runs really well with no problems on several long trips - just the embarrassing noise and fear that it is suddenly going to let my down. Its driving me crazy, not finding the solution - any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Get the pierburg (ti automotive) one it's around 100 quid. Avoid the cheap ones, even Bosch or "oem quality".
 
It looks like that this is going to be the only way. I was assured that both pumps were oem and one was from Britparts via my local garage, and I paid nearly £100 for each so not £30 cheapo ones in good faith. If no other pump will do, then why are people allowed to say that they are oem or equivalent, which is patently untrue.
 
The more I think about this the more I get annoyed ! If it is true what you say about none Pierburg pumps, then why are they allowed to sell them. I have spent near £200 on noisy pumps which do the job, but are unacceptably loud, and I know I will have trouble getting any recompense. Do people have trouble when fitting them to other applications, as it appears that they are listed for other td4 type engines. I look after my Freelander 1 to the extent of near obsession as we live in the Lake District where reliable transport is a must especially is winter. I am getting my local garage to fit a Pierburg next week along with a new VCU and front coil spring. Hopefully they will be able to persuade their supplier to accept return of the Britpart pump. I will let you know.
 
They don't do the job either. Providing the bare minimum 290 kpa instead of 370+ and they are also failing shortly.
Check other noisy pump topics there are many many. Always the same answer... pierburg.
 
Guess what !! Just turned out of my local garage and turbo hose split !! Cant believe it. I have to wait until Monday to get a new one ; meanwhile gaffa taped up plus cable ties.
 
Now got all the jobs done. Pierburg pump fitted. My garage said that he would not have believed it until he heard the difference. He had always got his Landy bits from the same supplier and up to then had had no problems. Fortunately he was able to return the Britpart pump and I was able to return the Cambiere. In both cases we have asked them to remove the Freelander fit listing.
