Tax exempt or not?

Hello
I am considering buying a land rover that was manufactured in 1975 but was not registered until 1996, does anyone know if the Road Tax works from manufacture date or registration date?

erm 1975 isn't tax exempt.......

Its not tax exempt if it was built in 1975. Tax exemption does work on the build date though.
